Operation Christmas Child
One of our chapter projects is to provide shoe boxes filled with items for children for Operation Christmas Child. Our boxes are due at the September meeting.
Packing a Shoebox. Use an average-sized cardboard or plastic shoebox. If you wrap the box, you must wrap the lid separately. Decide if the box if for a boy or girl, then choose an age category; ages 2-4, 5-9, or 10-14. Download a label from http://www.samaritanspurse.com , selecting the appropriate label. Fill the box with a variety of small gifts appropriate for the gender and age group you selected. Include a $7 donation to help with shipping costs. If you donate your $7.00 online at the Samaritan's Purse website, you will be able to follow your box to its destination. If you have questions, call Ginny Cook, 354-1419.
Suggested Items to Include. Small toys, School supplies, Non-Liquid Hygiene Products, Accessories, A personal note. Do Not Include used or damaged items, war related items or toys, guns, knives, chocolate, liquids or lotions, or breakable items.

SCRTA Sponsorship Recognized by boneyfiddle Arts Center UPDATED JUNE 6, 2014
SCRTA sponsored the youth category (elementary through high school) prize money for the Boneyfiddle Arts Center 2013 Art Contest in November 2013. The competition was judged by Todd Reynolds and Bastien Lecouffe from Shawnee State University. John Jones won both 1st and 2nd places in the Youth category for his mixed media collage and weaving. Jordan Hammond won 3rd place with her winning photograph. Cash awards were presented in the amounts of $50, $30, and $20.
Scholarships Awarded updated June 6, 2014
This is the first year that our SCRTA Scholarships have been awarded through the Scioto Area Foundation. We received twenty-five applications. The two recipients for 2014 are Maggie Blackburn from Minford High School and Alex Grashel from Portsmouth High School.
New O.R.T.A. District VII Director
Don Baker, an SCRTA member has been selected as the new O.R.T.A. District VII Director. He will work with retired teacher groups in several southeastern Ohio counties beginning January 2014. Congratulations.

The SCRTA Scholarship Fund is now under the umbrella of the Scioto Area Foundation. The total market value of the fund as of May 4, 5 was 2016: $21,743.78. Checks for the Scholarship Fund should still be make payable to SCRTA Scholarship Fund.

Volunteers
S.C.R.T.A. members are very active in the community and we encourage all members to report any volunteer work that you do. This shows that our members remain active within our local communities after retirement.
